Executive Mayor Jimmy Barnard first joined the DA as a ward councillor in the Cederberg Municipality. He joined the DA because “our country is crying out for change, and the DA is ready to answer that cry,” he says.
Jimmy was born in Vanrhynsdorp and has lived in Graafwater since 1999. He and his wife, Nicolene, have two sons, Jimmy-Lee and Nolan.
Jimmy believes that the most important part of being a leader in the Cederberg community is to be in touch with the people on the ground. He has had a successful career working at the West Coast District Municipality for over 18 years and as Ward 4 councillor for Graafwater, Sandberg, Paleisheuwel and the surrounding farms.
For Jimmy, the people of the Cederberg region have suffered under ANC rule for too long. He wants to provide better basic services and create jobs.
“The people of the Cederberg region are sick and tired. They have had enough of the ANC’s political oppression, corruption, empty promises, lack of service delivery and the golden handshake of the previous municipal manager.”
Jimmy will bring real change to the Cederberg Municipality with an honest and caring government, one that is transparent and serves the interest of all the people in this region. “It breaks my heart to see my people of the Cederberg region being ravaged by crime and drug abuse due to joblessness,” he says.
