Melvin Naik

Executive Mayor Melvin Naik is an energetic person whose mature and responsible approach to any task makes him a great leader and problem-solver. Melvin grew up in Blanco and matriculated from George Secondary School. He and his wife have been happily married for 22 years, they have a daughter and a son.

Melvin joined the DA after studying its Federal Constitution, including its values, and choosing to join the fight to save South Africa.

He has an NDIP in Public Management from UNISA, a BA in Administration from the UWC, a Higher Certificate in Housing Development and an Accredited Public Participation Certificate from the Stellenbosch Business School, and a Project Management Certificate from the Durban University of Technology. He got involved in politics because he wanted to make a difference in people’s lives.

Melvin has 25 years of experience in the education and housing sectors, and in local government. Before being elected as executive mayor of George, Melvin was a councillor in the Civil and Technical Services Portfolio, the area manager of the George Municipality and a low cost housing manager.

He likes to spend time with his family and his personal motto is: “I was saved by God’s grace. One life to live. Treat others the way you want to be treated.”

Melvin wants George to be the most innovative municipality. One that delivers quality services to all its citizens through good governance, including all stakeholders.
