A Mayoral Bursary Ceremony was held recently at the Paarl Town Hall and was attended by the twenty- four (24) new students, who received financial contributions towards their studies. Their parents, members of the Mayoral committee and the Executive Management team also attended the ceremony, led by the Executive Mayor.
After applying, the students were selected based on academic merit and financial need. The twenty-four new learners will join the twenty students already selected in 2016.
There are now a total of 44 Mayoral Bursary Holders and council has approved a budget of R350 000 to contribute to the tuition costs of these learners. The Mayoral Bursary intake prioritizes local government sectoral skills shortages in order to address the municipal labour demands.
