The DA in the Western Cape is delighted to note that the latest unemployment figures released by Statistics South Africa yesterday show that the Western Cape now has the lowest official unemployment rate in the country, sitting at 19.5%.
When taking into account the national unemployment rate of 26.7% and especially the national expanded unemployment rate of 36.3% it is clear that the Western Cape is by far outperforming all other provinces.
The latest Quarterly Labour Force Survey figures for the 4th Quarter 2017 that were released yesterday show that this province has gained 106 000 new jobs since the 4th quarter of 2016.
The DA regards these statistics as a vote of confidence in the Western Cape. It once again shows that the implementation of DA policy by provincial and local governments drives job creation where we are in power.
The DA congratulates the provincial administration of the Western Cape with its focus on job creation and opportunities for all.
The DA is showing that where we govern, total change is possible and that jobs are created, especially for the poor.
