Rehabilitating Lappies Bay

About this Article

The Lappies Bay dune rehabilitation management plan has been approved for a period of five years and the work on the dunes has been scheduled to coincide with the rainy season to ensure that changes made also assist with vegetation growth.  During August and September 2017 the seasonal storms and spring tides cause erosion of the dunes and this has also been factored into the management plan. As a result, sand will be deposited on the dunes to ensure that they retain their natural shape and form which will allow the municipality to work on the access routes. The Department of Technical Services has already cordoned off some areas which channelling access to the beach away from the site where the dunes are being rehabilitated.

This is a temporary measure and members of the public are asked to be patient while important rehabilitation work is carried out on the dunes.
